Pet Travel Question: Hamsters to the UK

Name: Shanti
From: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
To: Glasgow, Scotland, UK
Pet: Hamster

I was wondering what the rules or regulations are for bringing a hamster from Canada to Scotland (UK) and then from the UK to Canada? I am going to be in Scotland from December 28th - June 2012 and want to take my hamster with me. Please let me know if this is possible, thank you. She is the friendliest, sweetest, most social, human loving, best hamster of all time!

Hi Shanti,

Thanks for your question. As far as bringing a hamster to the UK, it’s a good idea to take a look at defra.gov.uk to find out the rules. Since Canada is not an approved country it appears you’d be facing a quarantine, however the UK is expected to be changing its pet import rules early in 2012. Contact us if you have any questions, and good luck with your sweet hamster!
