Pet Travel Question: How in the world do you move a pet to the UK?

Please can you help me? I have been given so many mixed ideas about how to get my cat from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to the UK. I have been told the cat must go through Cyprus, then I was told I need to stay in Cyprus for three days, where a vet would do some paperwork (that doesn't exactly sound legal). Please tell me the real way!

Bringing pets into the UK has been a confusing process for a long time, but hopefully in a few weeks it'll be much simpler. Up until now pets coming from most countries have faced a quarantine, but beginning Jan. 1 2012 that quarantine is set to be lifted and in general the new UK pet rules will be less strict. No matter when you're planning to go you'll still need to meet a few basic import requirements -- read the rules according to DEFRA for a better idea.
