Pet Travel Question: Layovers and US Imports

Name: Debra

I have been living in Kosovo and am returning to Oregon. I have a flight booked for mid-March. The total length of the flight is 20 hours. I have two short stops, one in Zurich, and one in Chicago, and I have a passport issued by my Vet in Kosovo. My questions are: do I need any other documentation regarding immunization, and is the flight time too long? Thank you, -Debra

Hi Debra,

Thanks for checking in with us! First, take a look at the Pet Import Requirements for the US to find out about the vaccines and permits you'll need to obtain.

As far as the length of the flight, it seems counterintuitive, but layovers are often much better for the pet. This allows a chance for stretching and bathroom breaks, and it makes the pace of the trip a little more leisurely. We advise that you choose a pet-friendly airline and double check all rules before you go to ensure that all loading and unloading is done with the utmost care and attention.

Feel free to contact us for more information, Debra. Our Pet Relocation Specialists are well-equipped to help you arrange your trip and will be happy to answer any more questions you might have. Good luck and happy travels!
