Pet Travel Question: Microchips, Rabies Vaccines and Moving to Italy

I am supposed to move Italy next Wednesday, and I got the rabies shot for my dog on May 3rd. Today I went to get the health certificate and they could not read her microchip (she had one put in 2007). My question is, can she have the microchip put in and still travel on Wednesday the 29th? I know the rabies has to be done before 30 days. Does the microchip have to be in before the rabies?

The pet import guidelines for Italy state that the microchip number must be included on the rabies certificate and the health certificate, and thus the microchip must be implanted before the vaccine is administered. Your dog will need to be re-vaccinated before you can make this trip. Sorry to hear that your plans are being disrupted!
