Pet Travel Question: Moving a Cat from Hong Kong

Name: Kate
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Dog
Pet Breed: Cross Breed
From: Hong Kong
To: UK

Hello There,

Can you give me some information about shipping my pet dog, Simone, from Hong Kong to England? My dog has had her rabies vaccination already. I have contacted a few of the shipping companies in Hong Kong (firstly their prices vary a lot and mostly are all very expensive). First question. Can I organise the shipping myself? Second question. I have been quoted from one of the shipping companies telling me that there will be a fee on arrival in the UK made by the PBS, customs charges of approx 340 pounds? Can you tell me if this is accurate information?

Many thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate,

Thanks for coming to us with your question! International moves can be daunting, so we're happy to help in any way that we can. In regards to your first question, yes it's possible to move yourself. We provide a few resources on our site: check them out for an overview of what you'll need to do to handle your own pet move.

As for the second question, here are the pet import requirements for the UK. You should also check the DEFRA site for more specific information, including how to go about meeting quarantine requirements and paying fees.

If you're still wondering about anything, feel free to give us a call. Good luck with everything!
