Pet Travel Question: Moving a Dog to the UK

I am just beginning my research and plans to move to the United Kingdom from the USA. I am concerned with my dog making the move. I just read on an airline site that pets are not permitted to travel to the UK. How am I suppose to get my pup over with me? And also, I have researched some of the health requirements, but I am a bit confused about them as well. Thanks so much!

First, here are the pet import requirements for the UK. It's definitely possible to bring pets to the UK from the US (we do it all the time), and the import rules actually became more lenient at the beginning of January 2012.
