Pet Travel Question: Moving a Rabbit to Canada

Name: Keileigh
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Rabbit
Pet Breed:
From: UK
To: Canada

My boyfriend and I are looking to move to Canada within the next year, however one slight problem is that we have a pet rabbit that we would dearly love to take with us. I am trying to find a route that will cause him the least amount of stress. Please could you advise.

Thanks,
Keileigh

Hi Keileigh,

Thanks for the question! Rabbits do pose certain challenges when it comes to moving them safely, so you're right to be thinking carefully about it. We recommend doing as much reading and exploring as possible; we've discussed rabbit travel on our blog in the past and have come across some helpful rabbit resources online.

Finally, here are the pet import requirements for Canada as well as a link to the official Canada pet import website.

Take a look at these, talk with your vet, and please contact us if you have any more questions. Good luck, Keileigh!

I am a dual resident and am going to USA first, from Thailand, and will be there a few days. Would it be a bit more easy to travel with rabbit to the States first and then to Canada. If I do this how long is the process from the States. Just a veterinarian document? Quarantines? Thank you for any help you can provide

Hello Cyrus, great question!

There is no quarantine for rabbits entering the United States or Canada. You may need to get both a health certificate for the US and another for entering Canada, but other than that it is very straightforward. You can read more about importing your rabbit to Canada here.

We hope this helps and that you have a safe and successful move ahead!
