Pet Travel Question: Moving Dogs Between the US and Australia

Hello,

I have two dogs (one is nine years old and the other is almost two years old). How long will they need to stay in quarantine for when we move to the US? Secondly, if we return, how long will they need to stay in quarantine in Australia and what are the requirements?

Thanks,

Natalie

Hi Natalie,

Thanks for your questions. Check out the US pet import requirements here. You'll notice that the United States does not require a quarantine, so your dogs should not spend any time in quarantine upon arrival in the US.

Moving pets to Australia, however, is a different story. The Australian pet import requirements mandate a 30-day quarantine period in an approved quarantine facility upon arrival in Australia. Additionally, your dogs will need to go to undergo several blood tests, parasite treatments, and vet examinations before being allowed to enter Australia.
