Pet Travel Question: Moving Older Dogs

Name: Paige
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Dog
Pet Breed: Old English Sheepdog/Border Collie Mix
From: Pennsylvania
To: Antigua

I may move to Antigua within the next six months. I have a 14.5 year old OES/Border collie mix dog. She is very healthy but is very serious and loves her routine. What is the best way to move my dog to Antigua that will be the least amount of stress for her?

Thanks,

Paige

Hi Paige,

Thank you for your question -- as a loving pet owner of course you have concerns about moving your dog internationally. First, take a look at the pet import requirements for Antigua to find out what vaccines, paperwork, etc. you'll need to take care of. As you can see it's smart to give yourself plenty of time to plan.

Next, you should discuss the idea of pet travel with your vet to see what advice he or she has about handling everything, and you can also check our blog for a discussion about moving older pets. We have moved many older pets successfully by using caution and care throughout the process, but it's still something you'll want to think carefully about before you proceed.

Good luck with everything, and please don't hesitate to contact us with more questions!
