Pet Travel Question: Moving Pets from Brazil to the US

Planning Pet Travel to the United States From Brazil

Hi PetRelocation,

I would like to know what companies can move my pets for me, and what is the documentation required to bring them to the United States. Thanks a lot!

-Ana Cristina

Hi Ana Cristina!

Thanks for your question. For your information, here are the pet import requirements for the United States. This country has some of the easier rules for importing pets, so primarily you'll need to focus on acquiring the International Health Certificates, buying airline-approved travel crates and booking flights on a pet friendly airline (we often use United for our clients' pets).

It's a great idea to start your travel preparations well in advance in order to get all your paperwork in order, and if you'd like to enlist the help of a Pet Relocation Specialist, contact us here for a consultation. If you are looking for assistance, we can help oversee vet visits, gather the correct documents, book the flights and arrange transportation to and from the airport on either end.

We'd be happy to help you with your move—just let us know if we can be of assistance, and either way, good luck!

I have just come from a veterinarian 's office in northeast Brazil and they told me that dogs must have a rabies blood test prior to receiving an international health certificate and it takes 30 days for the result. They finally did an exam and signed an Atestado de Saude Para Viagens de Caes e Gatos. Tomorrow I go to the airport for the International Health Certificate and hopefully, there will be no problems.

Hi Sharon! Here are the requirements for moving pets to the US. Since the US is not "rabies free" - we are "rabies controlled" - so a rabies blood titer test is not required for import. If you run into any more issues, you are welcome to arrange a move with our consultants and we'd be happy to help. Thanks!

I am leaving Brazil to go back to Texas at the end of the month with my service dog.Do you know what Brazil requires for me to have completed for when I arrive at the airport? What other than rabies shots does USA require? Thanks
