Pet Travel Question: Moving Pets to New Zealand

Hi PetRelocation,

I really want to be able to take my dogs with me when I move but six months away from them would be torture. I read online that new Zealand allows them to be quarantined in the owners home for thirty days if they come from Hawaii.

My question is, how long would I have to be in Hawaii before I could qualify for that?

Thanks,

Beth

Hi Beth,

New Zealand is one of the more complicated countries when it comes to moving pets, so your questions are certainly understandable. According to the official New Zealand pet import requirements, dogs must spend six months in Hawaii (or one of the other approved origin destinations) before they can be brought to New Zealand.

Upon arrival, pets will spend 10 days in an approved quarantine facility.

Please contact us if you have any more questions as you proceed. We'd be happy to talk about your safe pet transport options to New Zealand.

Good luck, Beth!
