Pet Travel Questions: Maine Coon Cats to the US

Name: Zizi
Number of Pets: 2
Pet Type: Cats
Pet Breed: Maine Coon
From: Hungary
To: USA

Hello,

I have two Maine Coon cats (brother & sister), each 18 months old. They have their rabies vaccinations and microchips, and I'm moving from Hungary to the USA.

Is it possible for my daughter to fly with the cats on board with her? We are scared to put them in cargo and would like fly them in the cabin, but they are Maine Coons so they are not so small.

Thanks,
Zizi

Hi Zizi,

Thanks for checking in with us! First, here are the pet import requirements for the US (it sounds like you're on the right  track so far). As far as cabin vs. cargo travel, be aware that as long as you're flying with a pet-friendly airline, cargo travel is actually very safe and most likely more comfortable for cats. This area of the plane is temperature and pressure controlled and provides a quieter environment than the cabin.

Read more about cabin vs. cargo travel for cats on our blog, and please contact us if you have any more questions. Good luck with everything!
