Pet Travel to Africa

Name: Cassi
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Dog
From: Houston, TX
To: Malabo, Equatorial Guinea

I am considering buying a pet prior to my departure to Malabo (start date May 1, 2011) and am curious about the requirements for importing a pet into Equatorial Guinea. For other African countries it says vaccinations need to be up to date... Which vaccinations are those and how long does it generally take to get them?

Hi Cassi,

Thanks for your question! For updated rules and requirements regarding pet travel to Equatorial Guinea, check with the relevant authorities:

        Ministry of Agriculture
        BP 559, Conakry
        Tel: 00224 453050

It's generally necessary to have an updated rabies certificate and a veterinary health certificate, and it's important to start the process a few weeks in advance in order to meet those rabies requirements (usually this must be done at least a month before departure but within the last year). Please contact one of our Pet Relocation Specialists if you have any further questions.

Happy traveling and good luck!
