Questions About Chinchilla Travel

chinchillaTransporting Chinchillas Internationally

Hi PetRelocation,

Can I bring my pets with me to New Zealand? Are Chinchillas allowed?

Hi Vonique,

Thanks for contacting us with your question. According to the official New Zealand Government website, Chinchillas can only be imported to New Zealand if they're coming from Great Britain. You can find more information here.

As you can see, New Zealand is a strict country when it comes to importing pets due to its rabies-free status—sorry to be the bearer of this news.

Please let us know if you have more questions! If you're considering moving elsewhere, we suggest checking with the Ministry of Agriculture website for that country to find out what species are allowed.

Good luck with everything, and drop us a line if we can ever be of service in the future.

Hey, I’m trying to travel from Boston MA, to Denver CO, and I am having the hardest time figuring out how to get my chinchilla back with me. I wanted to take a bus/train, but nothing is showing any type of promise. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Rolando! Chinchillas are considered CITES so you'll need to show proof of purchase showing it is a domesticated chinchilla. You'll also want to check with the governing body in ZA on import requirements. Hope this helps!
