Traveling from Germany to US

Subject: Traveling to the US with my Pomeranian
Question: I am flying from Germany to the pet friendly US and back with my Pomeranian, I would like to know if there is any documentation needed than what I already have. My dog has all of her vaccinations and a microchip, here in Germany they have a European Tierausweis (animal identification/passport) and at the end of this is a space that is signed and stamped by the veterinarian confirming that the dog is in good health to withstand its journey, will I have problems going to the US and then coming back into Germany? Do I need special documentation. This is the first time traveling with my pet and I am really nervous and want to avoid any problems with entry on both sides. I would be grateful for any information provided.

Answer: Hi J.,
Thank you for your inquiry! It sounds like you have most of what you will need to come back into the US. You want to make sure you have what is known as an "International Health Certificate," as this is what the airline will require for you to fly with your pet. Most airlines require that the health certificate be issued within 10 days of the flight, although some require the certificate be issued within 7 days of the flight, so it's a good idea to call your airline and double check. Other than that, as long as your dog is current on her vaccinations, you will have no problems.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Happy travels & wagging tails,
