“Which Airline Should I Choose When Flying My Pet?”

Hi PetRelocation,

Which airline should I use to fly my dogs across the country?

Thanks,

Patty

Hi Patty,

Thank you for your question! The airline you choose for your pet's trip is definitely an important consideration, as not all carriers offer the same level of service when it comes to pets.

PetRelocation helps hundreds of pets travel safely each year and we have a handful of airlines that we prefer -- these include United for domestic flights and KLM, Lufthansa and British Airways for international flights. United's PetSafe program allows pets to remain in temperature controlled environments at all times and they travel in the cargo area of the plane, which is pressure controlled, as well. Pets are treated far better than "just luggage" -- they are handled by trained staff and given water as well as rest breaks when possible.

Note that to help ensure a safe and uneventful trip, in addition to choosing a pet friendly airline we also highly recommend crate training your dogs if they're not already. When pets have a chance to get used to being in the crate and when they see it as a safe place to be, their time in transit will seem like no big deal to them.

Finally, here are a few frequently asked pet travel questions as well as a link to our guide to pet travel within the United States. Hopefully you can find lots of helpful information here.

Just let us know if you're interested in hiring assistance with your move, Patty. We'd be happy to arrange your pets' travels to Phoenix!
