How to Import Cats to the United States

Hi PetRelocation,

Potentially my family and I will be moving from Switzerland to Los Angeles in the next 3-4 months and are considering what to do with our cat. He has been with us for so long we would love to be able to bring him and I hoped this is something you could help with.

From your website it seems this is quite straightforward for you. Is this the case?

One specific question I had was about kenneling. We will probably need to move into some form of temporary accommodation on arrival until our belongings arrive, which could take 6 weeks or so. As part of your service could you arrange for the cat to be kenneled during this transition period until we are ready to collect him?

Let me know.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, the United States is one of the easiest places to import pets due to the straightforward and simple requirements. It sounds like you've already taken a look, but for reference here are the pet import requirements for the United States as well as a link to the USDA website.

As for our services, yes, boarding on either end is something we would be happy to help arrange. Moving is complicated (especially internationally) and we often assist with helping pets and their families transition as easily as possible by locating vets, boarding facilities, etc. in both the origin and destination cities. Moving is a process with many moving parts!

One more thing: we do recommend helping your cat get used to the travel crate if he's not already. Here are a few cat kennel tips for accomplishing this before your move.

If you'd like to discuss your options further with us, please fill out our online consultation form or give us a call at 1-877-PET-MOVE. Hope this helps and we hope to hear from you!
