Are you allowed to visit your animals while in quarantine? I know you use to be able too, but with all these new changes, I can't find that information listed anymore

By Maegan at PetRelocation on August 21, 2018 at 2:47 pm

Hi Kat! Mickleham does not allow visitors while pets are in quarantine. However, they have a fantastic staff so I know your pets will be in excellent hands. As you may know, a typical move into Australia can take at least 180-days, which begins with the completion of a rabies titer test. Our team specializes in pet moves to & from Australia, so if you are needing assistance with your move - please fill out our Arrange A Move form here and a team member will reach out to you shortly. Looking forward to speaking with you!

Hi there,My two dogs have just left California tonight and are MEL bound. My question is; when they arrive, approximately how long does it take for them to vacate the cargo, processed and transported to the PEQ facility? Does this procress take many hours before they arrive at the facilty? Also, I understand family members are kept in their own separate runs, but do they at least have an area to run and stretch their legs and can see one another, through a fence or wall? Thanks,Jo.

Hi Jo! In our experience, it shouldn't take any longer than 2 hours to complete the customs process and arrive to Mickleham to get settled into their runs. It generally takes 5-8 hours to receive the arrival notification; however, as the staff is assisting with all of the arrivals and departures that day before they can send out the official notifications to the owners. They'll be with someone from the moment they arrive though and if there was anything they needed to update you on, they would reach out sooner. The runs where they will be staying have an indoor section where their bed, water, and food will be, and an outdoor section where they can have more room to exercise and use the bathroom. They always try to put family members across from each other or next to each other so they can know the other is there. Hope this helps!

Dear sirs, our 2 Contibulldogs (Diva and Fex ( we call him Fin) are arriving 27.7.2018 . They are very loving . Diva is nearly 10 , so she has her old age issues as we too have at a certain age. will call you a few days after they arrive to hear how they are. I know they miss us a lot . If one hides little goodies without them seeing where one hides them , and then let them out , if you just say: goodies .... they will rush and look for them. Best regards

I was wondering what they do if a dog in quarantine is a picky eater or is not eating well while there? My dog is used to fresh food I make put on top of her food so I do not know how she will go eating food they provide. Do they off more than one kind of food if needed? Can you pay extra for better food? Do you know what type of food they provide? Thank you

By Maegan at PetRelocation on June 19, 2018 at 3:23 pm

Hi Jennifer! Big dogs are fed chicken & rice, Small dogs are fed turkey & rice, and cats are fed turkey or fish & rice. This is the brand of pet food they use in quarantine. Although food cannot travel with your pet into Australia, we often advise our clients to order food off this website and have it shipped directly to quarantine. Feel free to reach out to Mickleham directly with any specific shipping questions. Hope this helps!

Now that I have managed to sort out serious family problems in UK since 2015 I plan to return HOME to Australia in 2019 bringing my beloved dog (an Australian Kelpie) with me through Tullamarine Airport to Mickleham and have discovered that apart from high separate Vet bills on top of daily charge the is an outrageous charge of S1200 Import charge. I am a pensioner and have only just managed to save enough for the flight for us, I cannot possibly afford the suggested $2,000 quarantine bill. What am I supposed to do, have my dog put down!!?? Taking my dog from Aus to UK there were no quarantine required nor massive Vet charges, Why does there have to be such high costs the other way even though the Rabies etc etc preparation is exactly the same. I am very distressed. David Bowley (Australian Pensioner aged 80)

Our dog is older (12year cattle dog) he has a bit of separation anxiety since his brother passed. Would he be able to take an anxiety medication at the quarantine facility?

By Maegan at PetRelocation on May 22, 2018 at 9:33 am

Hi Denise! Yes, pets are allowed to receive medication while in quarantine. You will need to hire a local vet to come administer the medication between the hours of 8 AM - 4 PM. Mickleham has vets that they recommend so it would be best to reach out to them directly for a referral in AU at 1800 900 090. Hope this helps!

We are planning to move back to Australia from Spain next year. I am gathering information early. We have 2 dogs that we are transporting. My question is We are going to live in Brisbane, but will be flying on the same flight as the dogs, is it neccesary for us to stay in Melbourne during their quarantine or can someone organsise their flights from Mickleham to Brisbane. Thank you

By Maegan at PetRelocation on May 22, 2018 at 9:20 am

Hi Simone! Thanks for your question. You can get a local pet shipping company in Australia to arrange for the transfer from quarantine in Melbourne to Brisbane. This will avoid you and your family have to stay in Melbourne then driving your pets home. Feel free to search this database of reputable Australian pet shippers here. Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for all the info you shared on this page! I find it very useful! I’m relocating with my 10 year old Yorkie from HK to Aussie very soon. We will reside in Adelaide but I plan to fly to Melb with my pup. Post quarantine, we are considering to fly from Melb to ADL, do we need to have a health check before flying domestically or any requirement/ paperwork for domestic flight? Also, I was told that mickleham quarantine does not release animals on weekends, is that true? Do they count day of arrival as Day 1 of the 10 days? Thanks a lot!

By Maegan at PetRelocation on April 9, 2018 at 8:38 am

Hi Chloe, Thanks for your question! As far as we know, pets must travel as "manifest cargo" and not as "in-cabin" within Australia domestically, just FYI. If your pup is being released from quarantine, a domestic health certificate will not be required from MEL. Mickleham does not accept pets to arrive on the weekends, but they will allow pets to be released on the weekends. Pets must spend 10 nights, not 10 days in quarantine. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply! I am desperately waiting for PEQ to send me that email to confirm release of my pup! It's day 5 today... no news from them since confirming his arrival on the day we landed... usually when do PEQ propose release date? thank you!

By Maegan at PetRelocation on April 24, 2018 at 2:28 pm

Hi Chloe, it can take up to 8 days before receiving the release appointment. If you'd like, you can send an email to - they can give you an update!

By Chloe on April 27, 2018 at 8:55 am

I have received that email asking me to make a reservation for release! The email however, didn’t state what documents are needed when picking up my dog. Presumably just my passport for identification and that’s it?
