Pet Travel to Australia Via Canada
Hi PetRelocation,
Next year, my dog will fly from Thailand to Canada, and my friend will pick him up, and the dog will be sent Australia. My questions are:
1. How long does it take to complete the process when he arrives Canada before flying on to Australia?
2. Are there any requirements for the period that he has to stay in Canada before he goes to Australia?
Thanks,
Kanthida
Hi Kanthida,
Thanks for your question -- and perfect timing! We have recently been discussing Australia pet travel on our blog and earlier this week published a post offering directions for people moving pets from a non-approved country. Take a look to find out more about the steps, but we're happy to briefly answer your questions here, too.
Your dog will need to stay in Canada for at least 30 days, and while he's here you'll need to do a few things that include the following: repeat the rabies vaccination, double check all other vaccinations, undergo external parasite treatments and secure all relevant paperwork. Please find more about these instructions here.
If you need some information about the first leg of your dog's journey, here is a look at the pet import requirements for Canada as well as a link to a few frequently asked pet travel questions.
We encourage you to take some time to read through this information and then let us know if you are interested in hiring some assistance with your move.
Hope this helps, good luck!
