Can Guinea Pigs Travel to Australia?

guinea pigAre Guinea Pigs Allowed Into Australia?

Dear PetRelocation,

Kindly guide me about how I can take my pets to Australia. Is it possible to bring my Guinea Pigs there?

Thank You,

Enosha

Hi Enosha,

Unfortunately guinea pigs cannot be imported into Australia at this time. Please see the Australian Government Department of Agriculture website for more information.

Sorry to be the bearer of this news, Enosha. Australia is a rabies-free country that imposes pretty strict rules on the pets allowed in. Dogs and cats have to undergo a lengthy pre-travel process involving lots of vaccines and blood tests and they also must spend 10 days in a quarantine facility upon arrival.

If you're considering moving somewhere else, take a look at our best tips for getting started with your pet's move. If you have additional questions, you're also welcome to peruse our blog to find out about more pet travel topics.

Hopefully you'll keep us in mind if you ever need to relocate a pet in the future, however. Thanks for your inquiry, and good luck with everything!
