Can I Bring My Bunny to Australia?

Rabbit Travel to Australia

Dear PetRelocation,

What are the requirements that must be met to take my bunny with us to spend six months or more in Australia?

Thanks,

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

According to the official Australia Department of Agriculture website, rabbits can only be imported to Australia from New Zealand.

Australia is a strict country when it comes to importing animals due to its rabies-free status, and unfortunately it looks like you won't be able to bring your dwarf bunny with you at this time. Here is more information about bringing pets to Australia.

It sounds like you're not planning a permanent move, though, so hopefully you can find a great pet sitter to care for your rabbit while you're gone. Sorry to be the bearer of unfortunate news, Sandra! Not all countries treat other animals in such a strict way, so don't rule out relocating if that's what you're truly wishing to do.

Please let us know if you have any other pet travel questions we may be able to answer, and good luck to you with all your future travels.
