Dear PetRelocation,

Please could you tell me what would be required to take our cat to Canada with us for three weeks this summer and then bring him home again?

Thank you,

Jacky

Hi Jacky,

Sure, we'd be happy to provide some information. When you cross an international border with a pet, you'll need to research and meet the individual pet import requirements for that country. Even if you're just planning a short trip to one place and back, you'll need to make sure you're ready to comply with the rules for Canada and, upon your return, for the UK.

These are the pet import requirements for Canada and these are the rules for bringing pets to the United Kingdom. At the beginning of 2012 the UK relaxed their rules so that a quarantine is no longer necessary for most pets, but you'll still need to follow a few steps. Canada is an approved non-EU country, so the rules for your cat won't be as complicated as they would be for some.

Hopefully this information will be helpful! Please take a look at our blog for more information about general pet travel; many people find it reassuring to read some of our customer stories and pet preparation tips (how to crate train your cat, for example).

Please let us know if you have more questions, and good luck with everything!
