“How do I relocate my cats to Sri Lanka?”

Name: Yolandi
From: Cape Town, South Africa
To: Colombo, Sri Lanka
Pets: Two Sphynx ("Hairless") Cats

Dear PetRelocation,

I would like to know what paperwork is required and which procedures should be followed in order to relocate my two cats from South Africa to Sri Lanka? What will be the process to bring them back to South Africa (from Sri Lanka) after one or two years?

Thanks,
Yolandi

Hi Yolandi,

Thanks for contacting us with your question. Moving pets to Sri Lanka requires quite a bit of planning, but we have managed moves there before and would be happy to provide you with some information.

Here are the pet import requirements for Sri Lanka. You'll need to organize your cats' vaccinations and paperwork (including a vet health certificate) in a timely manner. Here's another website offering more information about obtaining the correct documents.

A couple of years ago we helped five pets move to Sri Lanka -- take a look at their story to find out more about the process. One of our Pet Relocation Specialists also had the chance to visit a pet service provider in Sri Lanka. Here's a behind-the-scenes tour of their facility.

When you make your return later on, you'll need to read and follow the pet import requirements for South Africa.

As you can see, pet travel isn't as easy as just hopping on a plane, but with the right amount of planning it's possible to carry out smoothly. Please review all of this information and then let us know if you're interested in our door-to-door services. Thanks again, and good luck with your travels!
