Dear PetRelocation,

Is this breed allowed to move to Australia from America? Which breeds are not allowed to move there?

Thanks a bunch :-D

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your question. According to information found on the official Australia government website, American Pit Bull Terriers are not eligible for import (neither are Dogo Argentinos, Fila Brasileiros, Japanese Tosa, Perro de Presa Canarios or Presa Canarios). Feel free to read more about this under the frequently asked questions section on this site.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Stephen. You're welcome to reach out to us if you have further questions about breed restrictions as they relate to pet travel and various country requirements.

If you do find yourself considering a move to another country and want to check out the rules, please refer to our country information pages and/or to the USDA website for further direction.

Thanks again, and good luck with all your future plans!

Can you take up any courses or something along those lines to be able to import a pitbull into Australia? Thank you

Hi Chad,

That’s a good question. There is no reference to courses that can allow you to import banned breeds on the Australian Department of Agriculture website, so I don't think this is an option. However, you can always contact the authorities in Australia directly to confirm this. Here is a list of FAQs, including banned breed information and the contact number for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

Hope this helps!
