Pet Travel From South Africa to England

Good Day,

Would you be able to give me a rough indication of what it would cost to take our dogs with us to England? What are the requirements and is there a quarantine period?

Hi Marco,

Thank you for your inquiry, we'd be happy to help!

As we note in our recent UK Pet Travel Spotlight Series, one of the first things you'll want to do is get acquainted with the pet import requirements for pets coming from South Africa. According to the official UK government website, South Africa is an "unlisted" country so you'll need to follow the rules outlined here for a smooth entry. If all rules are followed correctly, your dogs will not need to fulfill a quarantine period.

As for price, this will ultimately depend on a few factors but for an idea of what to expect you can take a look at these typical pet travel costs.

For more information, please look over these frequently asked questions about UK pet travel and feel free to contact us for a pet travel consultation if you're interested in hiring some assistance. Pet travel to the UK can be tricky, and many people choose to save themselves a bit of time and stress by enlisting the help of experts.

Hopefully this helps to get you started! Just let us know if we can answer any more questions and happy traveling!

Can I take my Miniature Snauzer to England for a month on holiday?

By on June 25, 2018 at 9:57 am

Hi Antoinette! Yes, you can take your pup with you on holiday. However, whenever a pet leaves a country and enters another, it is considered a full export from one country and full import into another. There is a ton of vet work & paperwork required on both ends of a relocation in order to safely move a pet. You'd want to review the requirements here -- depending upon which country you are exporting from will dictate the amount of time needed to plan your pup's relocation (up to 4 months in some cases). Hope this helps!

Hi Michelle!

For questions regarding commercial imports, we suggest contacting DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) in London directly to see what steps you must take. You can reach the Pet Travel Scheme Helpline at pettravel[at]apha[dot]gsi[dot]gov[dot]uk.

Good Day ,I'd just like to enquire about the estimated cost of sending a Jack Russell from South Africa to England . He has been Sterilised , vaccinations are upto date & been microchipped. Has an upto date record of all of the above . did read the links provided but don't give the answer to the question. It's seems to only give a break down of the procedure involved. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Would like you to pls give me details on what is required to take my Bassett to the U K thanx Ros Hughes

By on September 6, 2017 at 4:11 pm

Hello Roslynne,

We would be happy to guide you through the UK requirements, but this is dependent upon what country you are coming from. If you are traveling from the US, the requirements for import can be found here.

However as mentioned in the blog above, there are some countries that are labeled "unlisted" by the UK. These countries would require additional steps for import.

We hope this helps! Should you need further guidance or if you would like a quote for our services to move your Bassett, please feel free to contact us.
