Pet Travel Question: International Vacations with Dogs

Name: Andy
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Dog
Pet Breed: Chihuahua
From: Mumbai, India
To: Miami, USA

Hi,

I am currently in Mumbai and going back to Miami for a short holiday. I need to carry my pet dog with me and of course bring him back when the holiday is over. Can I do this?

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your question. Crossing international boundaries with a pet, either for a permanent relocation or a vacation, will require following each country's stated import rules. To prepare for your trip, you'll need to review the pet import requirements for the United States as well as the pet import requirements for India and follow the instructions for each country accordingly. It would also be a good idea to contact the airline you'll be flying with to find out about their specific pet policies.

Honestly some people find that it's not worth the trouble to go through all of this preparation for a quick vacation (while some people think it's well worth it), but either way we encourage you to spend some time researching the steps you'd need to take before making a decision about whether you should bring your dog with you or leave him with a trusted pet sitter.

Please contact us if you have any more questions, and enjoy your trip!
