Pet Travel Question: Moving Birds to India

Hi PetRelocation,

I bought one green parrot here in Dubai and want to take this parrot to my home in India. What documents are required and which airlines can I choose from?

Someone told me that I need to prepare a document like a passport for my parrot, so please advise me about all the details so I can take my parrot home.

Thanks,
Flavy

Hello Flavy,

Thanks for contacting us with your question. Unfortunately, birds cannot be imported to India at this time due to the threat of Avian Flu. Sorry to be the bearer of this news.

In general, international bird travel requires plenty of planning and attention to detail (but isn't necessarily impossible), so we suggest taking a look at these bird travel tips if you ever decide to move to a different place with your parrot.

If you have other pets you may be moving to India, take a loot at the India pet import requirements along with these frequently asked pet travel questions. When traveling with pets, it's important to research all rules and requirements, choose a pet friendly airline, and purchase an airline approved pet travel crate.

Good luck and thanks again for reaching out!

Hi, I am Millie . I am Nepalese and I went to visit to Delhi. In my visit I saw a lovely budgie parrot and I bought it but some of my friend said that I need my pet budgie parrot’s passport to take to Nepal from India from bus. My question that , there will be checking in the boundary of India to Nepal , So can I take my pet budgie parrot without passport or other things of my budgie parrot ? Should I make passport of my budgie parrot? If I won’t make passport of my budgie parrot should I pay tax?If I should pay tax for taking my buggie parrot without passport how much should I pay the tax?

Hello Millie, and thanks for your question. Based on our most recent knowledge, Nepal has a ban on the import of pet birds due to avian flu issues, so it would not be possible to move a budgie there at this time. Sorry to be the bearer of this news!

Hi Shafeeque! We specialize in the safe transport of pets, so would not be an expert source of advice on legal matters like this. We do caution against purchasing pets online, as birds in particular can be very complicated to relocate and this could be a scam. Birds also cannot be imported to India, if that’s where you currently reside. Sorry we can't be of more assistance on this topic!

Hello Ranganadh, thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, it is only currently possible to import cats and dogs into India. We're not sure when or if this ban will ever be lifted.

We wish we had better news for you and wish you the best of luck!
