Pet Travel Questions: Can Snakes be Imported to Australia?

Hi PetRelocation,

I am moving to Australia... Can I take my pet snake with me?

-Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, it looks like you won't be able to move your Oketee Corn Snake to Australia with you.

Importing pets into Australia -- even dogs and cats -- is a complex process due to Australia's rabies-free status, and according to the governing body for moving pets (AQIS), snakes and other exotic pets are not accepted.

Sorry to be the bearer of this news! As a company we have nothing against moving other animals, including snakes -- we've moved several, including Oz, Inca and Jazz -- so let us know if you decide to travel with them to a more welcoming country and we can discuss your options with you.

If you have any more questions you're welcome to contact us to speak to a Consultant, or you can take a look at our Australia pet travel guide.

Thanks again for reaching out and good luck with everything, Kelly!
