If you're planning to move to Australia with a pet in the future, you should be aware that a proposal to dramatically raise pet import fees is currently being considered by the Australia Department of Agriculture.
The proposal would raise quarantine fees to $149 AUD per day, so a typical 10-day quarantine along with the various other fees attached would amount to around $1800 AUD per pet. This may make a move to Australia cost-prohibitive for many pet owners and certainly isn't good news for anyone hoping to relocate to Australia with a pet.
What can you do? For now, you can sign this petition by Monday registering your disagreement with the plan.
