Pet Travel Advice: Shipping Dogs to Kenya

What Documents Does a Dog Need to Enter Kenya?

Dear PetRelocation,

My little dog, who weighs 7 kg and already has his vaccinations up-to-date, has also has been microchipped.

Although Kenyan airways agreed to fly him when we checked in with him (he was mentioned on my husband's ticket) they refused him entry so we have flown out without him. We have had conflicting advice from various sources, including the Kenyan embassy in Paris.

Could you tell me what documents our dog needs to enter Kenya, what airlines would be prepared to fly him, and in what section of the plane??

Thank you very much,

Geraldine M.

Bonjour Geraldine,

Sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced. Pet travel can definitely be complicated and we hope we can assist.

As far as entry into Kenya, here is some detailed information about import permits (including a contact number). Did Kenyan Airlines give you a reason for denying entry?

Since there has been some confusion and since policies can sometimes change, we'd recommend contacting the various airlines that fly into Kenya and finding out about rules and restrictions directly from airline representatives. You may also want to find a local agent there to help you with importing your dog—we recommend using to search for a reputable agent.

If you need further help with the logistics of your move and would like to enlist our professional assistance you can contact us for a consultation or give us a call at 1-877-PET-MOVE.

Good luck and safe travels!

Good dayWe live in Botswana and are going to move to Kenya. What are the procedures to import 2 dogs and a cat? There are no more direct flight from Gaborone to Nairobi. There is a step over in Jbg or in Ethipiathank youKind regardsKristina

Hi Kristina,

We have not relocated a pet from Botswana to Kenya, however, we have used South African Airlines in the past to relocate pets to Africa. I believe they offer "comfort stops" in JNB, which is a nice time for your pets to have some water and relax before continuing on their journey. For further assistance we recommend reaching out to various airlines directly by giving them a call.

Hope that helps a little! Good luck and let us know if we can be of assistance.

I would like to move my pet dog to Kenya in cabin from USA via Zurich in November. How can I go about this?

Hello Angela, thanks for the question!

Even though you plan on having your dog travel in-cabin with you, you would still need to follow the import requirements laid out here. Beyond this, we recommend reaching out to Swiss Air or the airline you are using for further details to meet their in-cabin regulations.

We hope this helps! Good luck with everything!

Hi Yensi, thanks for reaching out to us.

We have only moved a few pets to Kenya over the last few years (and never from the UK), but when we did we used KLM or Swiss Air.

For further assistance we recommend reaching out to various airlines directly by giving them a call.

Hope that helps a little! Good luck and let us know if we can be of assistance.

Good afternoon I just wanted to know if British Airways fly dogs to Kenya from England because they don't make it clear on their website. Also what would be required to fly a dog to Kenya from England. If British Airways don't, would you happen to know what airlines do fly pets to Kenya and what's required. Thank you very much Yensi Ndumu
