Pet Move of the Month: Coco’s Relocation to South Africa

CocoHow many of us consider our pets to be our "babies"? If you count yourself in this set, you already have something in common with Coco's owners, who recently contacted us to help move their cute kitty to South Africa.

The move went well and it sounds like Coco is doing great in her new home (she's also enjoying being a star on our Facebook page!). Read on to find out more about fabulous Coco and her international move.

What were some of your concerns going into the move?

Time frame, knowing that it would take about two days for travel and Coco would have to be confined to a crate (that was the most heartbreaking concern of all), and the logistics regarding her delivery at the arrival address.

Did anything surprise you about the international pet moving process?

Yes -- the quotes I received from various agencies. I could not believe that the amount to move Coco back to South Africa was going to be 10 times more costly than our last move! It was a relief to find an agency who was willing to work with another agency in South Africa to cut the cost by 50%, and the personnel were professional and warm-hearted in assisting me with Coco being picked up at the apartment.

I was kept informed of the progress throughout the whole journey -- from the second she left my arms until the time she arrived safely in South Africa. Even after she arrived, I still got emails to inquire about Coco's trip and well-being -- that meant a lot to me! Last but not least, the fact that she was on your Facebook page and received so many likes -- awesome!!!

How is Coco adjusting to the new location?

She is adjusting extremely well and recovered quite fast without any health issues or being stressed out.

What is life like in South Africa? Is it a pet-friendly place to be?

Lots of people have pets in South Africa and they care about the animals. There aren't very many pet parks and you are only allowed to have pets in certain apartments/townhouses if the place has adequate space or a garden. South Africa also has a few pet stores where you can purchase the most adorable toys and spoil your pet.

What advice do you have for people who might be planning a move?

Make sure that you choose an agency who has animal-loving personnel and who are not afraid (or irritated) to answer questions for your own peace of mind. If your pet is also like your child, it is not always the most expensive agency who will be the best to move your pet, therefore it is good to do your homework, get quotes, but most importantly, talk to the people who will be moving your precious cargo as if it is their own!
